Where Roses Fall - 1

The following prayer was written by St. Therese to offer herself to the merciful love of God.  At her death it was found in her copy of the Gospels which she carried close to her heart night and day.

Prayer of St. Therese

"O my God, most Blessed Trinity, I desire to love Thee and to make Thee loved, to labour for the glory of Holy Church by saving souls on earth and by delivering those who suffer in Purgatory. I desire to accomplish Thy Will perfectly and to attain to the degree of glory which Thou hast prepared for me in Thy Kingdom; in a word, I desire to be a saint, but I know how helpless I am, and I implore Thee, O my God, to be Thyself my sanctity.

"Since Thou hast loved me so much as to give me Thine only Son to be my Saviour and my Spouse, the infinite treasures of His merits are mine; I gladly offer them to Thee, beseeching Thee to look on me only through the eyes of Jesus and in His Heart aflame with love.

"Also, I offer Thee all the merits of the saints who are in heaven and on earth, their acts of love and those of the holy Angels. Lastly, I offer Thee, O Blessed Trinity, the love and the merits of the Blessed Virgin, my beloved Mother-it is to her that I entrust my offering, praying her to present it to Thee.

"Her Divine Son, my well-beloved Spouse, during the days of His life on earth, said to us: 'You have only to make any request of the Father in my name, and He will grant it to you,' and so I am certain that Thou wilt grant my desires. My God, I know it-the more Thou willest to give, the more Thou dost make us desire. In my heart I feel immense desires, and with confidence I call upon Thee to come and take possession of my soul. I cannot receive Holy Communion as often as I long for it, but, Lord, art Thou not all-powerful? Remain in me as in the Tabernacle and never leave Thy little victim.

"I long to console Thee for the ingratitude of the wicked, and I implore Thee to take from me all freedom to displease Thee. If through weakness I sometimes fall, may Thy divine glance at once cleanse my soul and consume all my imperfections-as fire transforms all things into itself.

"I thank Thee, O God, for all the graces Thou hast granted me, especially for having made me pass through the crucible of suffering. With joy I shall behold Thee on the last day, carrying the scepter of the Cross. Since Thou hast deigned to give me this most precious Cross as my portion, I hope I may resemble Thee in heaven and see the sacred stigmata of Thy Passion shine on my glorified body.

"After my exile on earth, I hope to enjoy possession of Thee in the Fatherland, but I do not wish to amass merits for heaven. I wish to work only for Thy love, for my sole aim is to give Thee pleasure, to console Thy Sacred Heart, and to save souls who will love Thee for ever.

"At the close of this life, I shall appear before Thee with empty hands, for I do not ask Thee, Lord, to count my works. All our good deeds are stained in Thy sight. I wish therefore to be clothed with Thine own justice, and to receive from Thy Love the eternal possession of Thyself. I desire no other throne, no other crown but Thee, O my Beloved.

"In Thy sight, time is nothing; one day is as a thousand years. In an instant, Thou canst prepare me to appear before Thee.

"That my life may become one act of perfect love, I offer myself as a sacrificial victim to Thy merciful Love, imploring Thee to consume me ceaselessly, and to let the floods of Thy infinite tenderness flow into my soul so that, O my God, I may become a martyr of Thy Love.

"May this martyrdom at last slay me, after having prepared me to appear before Thee, and may my soul fly without delay to the eternal embrace of Thy merciful Love.

"O my Beloved, I desire at every beat of my heart to renew this offering an infinite number of times until the shadows fade away and, for all eternity, I can tell Thee of my love face to face ! ! !"
